Geoff Marshall’s Summary

I am currently available as an art director/artist. I prefer creative, premium projects (don't we all!)

I have extensive experience in all aspects of CG animation and graphics. I have 25 years experience doing everything from traditional cel painting, CG animation and effects, to directing cartoon shorts.

Tools, skills, and specialties:

animation, modeling, texturing, lighting, effects, and rendering in Maya, Houdini, Renderman and Mental Ray. I also have used Zbrush, RealFlow and done TD coding in Tcl/Tk and hscript. I helped beta test the Chops feature of Houdini with Greg Hermanovic. I have a full knowledge of Flash animation production. I composite in After FX and Shake. I can also paint and draw proficiently with traditional and digital tools. I love art. I play guitar like a smooth devil.

ABOUT MYSELF
I started out in traditional, spent some time designing broadcast graphics and acting as Graphics Director for the entire CTV News network with a staff of 5 designers. Then I moved into CG for advertising and completed I forget how many commercials. A lot. For six years I ran my own company and worked alongside companies as diverse as Gajdecki VFX,, Bitcasters, BGM music as well as collaborating with renowned artist Michael Snow on his "Corpus Collosum" project. At this time I created, designed, animated and directed several short cartoons based on original properties for myself and others.
I have also been an art director, an illustrator and for a while I toured Europe doing live CG visuals at large concerts. In that capacity I have worked with renowned DJ Richie Hawtin and the rock group Rush. I was a guest speaker at the 1991 BDA awards, and a guest lecturer at Sheridan college.

In addition I have extensive knowledge as a music producer and composer and have written music for commercials and several short films. I know the process for breaking down dialogue and editing sound for cartoons. I find this especially handy in the directing field. I have completed two rather complex albums with my band, The Angry Parrots.
